ASANKO REGIONAL EXPLORATION PROJECT - ASANKRANGWA GOLD BELT
PMI Gold is also developing its third proposed "mining centre" -- The Asanko Regional Exploration Project (previously name Ashanti II or Asankrangwa Regional Exploration Project) is a regionally contiguous group of tenements covering some 55km of strike in the Asankrangwa Gold Belt, and is located immediately south of PMI's 100%-owned Obotan Project. The Company's exploration approach to the Asanko tenements is on two fronts: the development of the resource targets within 15km of the Nkran Deposit (Obotan Project); and the exploration of resource targets within the southern 40km of the Asanko tenements with a focus on the establishment of a new stand-alone mining operation.
The regional gold potential of the Asanko Project is clearly indicated by historical exploration results of previous explorers. A strategic review of the historical data was carried out in 2005 with 17 target areas recommended for detailed follow-up exploration. This work has not previously been undertaken due to insufficient funds, however PMI is now well funded to aggressively ramp-up exploration efforts across the entire tenement package during 2012. The company has recently boosted its geological manpower and the development of dedicated regional exploration teams, and has re-established its exploration camp at Sefwi Bekwai in preparation to commencing field activities.
